Peru 2001

The trip started by flying into Lima, Peru, at around 11:30pm. Lima is not very safe, so we immediately got on a bus and drove to Huaraz, which is a town about 8 hours away from Lima. It is the mountaineering capital of Peru, as it is situated just outside of the Cordilla Blanca (part of the Andes) and has many restaurants, gear stores, groceries, etc. - all you need to equipt for your trip.

Lima is at sea level, but Huaraz is at 10,000ft, so the drive goes winds through seemingly endless mountain passes. Unfortunately this was all at night so I have no pictures of this. Below are some pictures when we stopped on the road the next morning, before reaching Huaraz.
